Orange Aboriginal Medical Service (OAMS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Officer to join our Walan Ngayi-ny Dhulubang (Strong Mind, Strong Spirit) team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a culturally connected, community-led service that supports healing, resilience and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people and families across Central Western NSW.
About the Role
The Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Officer plays an important role in supporting the holistic health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
This is an identified female position. The position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women only. Exemption is claimed under Section 14(d) and Section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
Using a culturally safe, trauma-informed and strengths-based approach, you will provide direct support, advocacy, case coordination and referrals across a range of wellbeing areas, including:
- Social and emotional wellbeing
- Mental health support
- Alcohol and other drug concerns
- Family and community relationships
- Cultural identity and connection to Country
- Housing and access to essential supports
- Community participation and engagement
- Early intervention and wellbeing programs
Working closely with clients, families, Elders, community members and multidisciplinary teams, you will help promote healing, empowerment and positive outcomes for Aboriginal people and their families.
About the Team
The SEWB Officer is a valued member of the Walan Ngayi-ny Dhulubang (Strong Mind, Strong Spirit) team, the Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Holistic Healing arm of OAMS.
The team provides culturally responsive support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families, addressing the social, emotional, cultural and environmental factors that influence overall wellbeing. Working collaboratively with internal OAMS programs and external service providers, the team delivers coordinated, holistic and person-centred care.
Essential Requirements
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman (this is an identified position and exemption is claimed under Section 14(d) and Section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW))
- Current NSW Working With Children Check
- Current National Criminal History Check
- Current Class C Driver Licence
- Demonstrated understanding of Social and Emotional Wellbeing principles
- Strong relationship-building skills with clients, families and stakeholders
- Effective communication, advocacy and case management skills
- Commitment to culturally safe and trauma-informed practice
- Commitment to undertake and successfully complete the Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) training within the first 12 months of employment as a mandatory requirement of the role

The successful applicant will be required to:
- Undertake and pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check

Remuneration
$37.27 per hour plus superannuation under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Award [MA000115].
